Announcing our 2010 Pub Crawl to Portugal
November 6 - 14, 2010
This year's trip will be more of a "wine crawl" than a Pub Crawl. We'll have a full 8 days and 7 nights in Portugal for only $999, including round trip direct flight from Newark to Lisbon, 7 nights accommodation in the beautiful 4 star Mundial Hotel located in downtown Lisbon, breakfast daily, transfers and a half day tour of the Lisbon, capital of Portugal. I'm working on some optional excursions to Porto to learn about Port Wines and another to visit a vineyard in the coutryside. Portugal is famous for it's Sangria... red or white... it's different at every place and one is more delicious than the next. Portugal is also one of the best places in the world for fresh seafood. Stop in the Pub or email porterspub@gmail.com to sign up or ask any questions.
Another optional excursion...
Leaving Lisbon, we drive northwards and arrive at our first point of the visit: the beautiful walled town of Obidos with its narrowed streets and the Pousada do castelo. We then drive to Alcobaca where we can visit the 12th century Church of the Monastery with the tombs of Pedro and Ines de Castro. We drive to Nazare' the most colourful Portuguese fishing village, where we stop for lunch (not included). If possible, we will go to the Sitio for a panoramic view of the beach and village. In the afternoon we go to Batalha Monastery, a masterpiece of Gothic considered a heritage of humanity by UNESCO. Finally we arrive at Fatima's Sanctuary, centre of Christian faith and a place of world pilgrimage, to visit the Basilica where the tombstone of Lucia, Jacinta and Francisco are, as well as the Chapel of Apparitions, heart of the shrine.
Munich, Germany Pub Crawl November 14 - 22, 2009
Our Munich Pub crawl was a blast! The capital of Bavaria didn't disappoint and the weather cooperated nicely. Low sixties and suny for most of the 8 days... who said global warming was a bad thing? The biggest impression the city made on me was how immaculately clean everything was and how friendly the German people were.
As a group we toured the city and saw all the major sights... Marienplatz, the Rathaus and Ratskeller, Hoffbrau Haus, Nymphenburg Castle and most of the old city. The following day we took a tour of the family owned Ayinger Brewery in the tiny village of Aying in the foothills of the Alps. We've been selling Ayinger Celebrator Doppelbock for almost 20 years now, so it was nice to meet those folks face to face.. and the tasting afterwards wasn't half bad either... ;-)
The rest of the week was free time to do whatever you liked... most visited mad King Ludvig,s castles in southern Bavaria... gorgeous. And most folks made the train ride for a day trip to Salzburg, Austria.. birthplace of Mozart. That left us all lots of time to wander the cobblestone alleys of Munich's old city, check out the outdoor markets, museums and, of course, all the wonderful beer houses! I was in heaven... I had an excellent Black Bock beer from Lowenbrau that I had never even heard of. Also plenty of Hoffbrau (only sold in liters), Spaten, Franziskaner, Paulaner, Aventinus, Augustiner, Lowenbrau to name a few.
