Announcing our 2011
Pub Crawl to Guadalajara
Feb 12 - 20
Porters' Pub is going straight to the source. Join us for 9 fantastic Sun filled days in Guadalajara ,Mexico. 30 miles from the town of Tequila!!
$999 includes airfare from Newark to Guadalajara on Continental, 8 nights in the historic Hotel Morales, breakfast daily and all transfers. Wow!
The Hotel Morales is a beautifull property located right in the heart of the downtown historic district. It's a landmark itself and very convenient to all the sights and public transportation.
Guadalajara and Tequila are both located in the state of Jalisco... this is the only place where tequila can be produced and there are dozens of distilleries and blue agave plantations open for tours. We'll be able to get taste some small handcrafted tequilas you can't even get in the states.
Guadalajara is a very historic town settled by Spain in 1532. The Spanish colonial Cathedral dates from 1560 and the Government Palace and public squares put Mexico's laid back twist on a very European concept.
Guadalajara is Mexico's 4th largest city with a proud heritage in history, food and music. (home of Mariachi music) This will be a very Mexican cultural experience... nothing at all like the cheezy resort towns. This is the real deal!
This trip is going to be a blast. Come and join the fun. For details or to reserve your spot ask your server or send an email to Larry at porterspub@gmail.com.
Price excludes fuel surcharges and airport departure fees
Pub Crawl to Portugal
November 6 - 14, 2010
SOLD OUT.This year's trip will be more of a "wine crawl" than a Pub Crawl. We'll have a full 8 days and 7 nights in Portugal for only $999, including round trip direct flight from Newark to Lisbon, 7 nights accommodation in the beautiful 4 star Mundial Hotel located in downtown Lisbon, breakfast daily, transfers and a half day tour of the Lisbon, capital of Portugal. I'm working on some optional excursions to Porto to learn about Port Wines and another to visit a vineyard in the coutryside. Portugal is famous for it's Sangria... red or white... it's different at every place and one is more delicious than the next. Portugal is also one of the best places in the world for fresh seafood.
Another optional excursion...
Leaving Lisbon, we drive northwards and arrive at our first point of the visit: the beautiful walled town of Obidos with its narrowed streets and the Pousada do castelo. We then drive to Alcobaca where we can visit the 12th century Church of the Monastery with the tombs of Pedro and Ines de Castro. We drive to Nazare' the most colourful Portuguese fishing village, where we stop for lunch (not included). If possible, we will go to the Sitio for a panoramic view of the beach and village. In the afternoon we go to Batalha Monastery, a masterpiece of Gothic considered a heritage of humanity by UNESCO. Finally we arrive at Fatima's Sanctuary, centre of Christian faith and a place of world pilgrimage, to visit the Basilica where the tombstone of Lucia, Jacinta and Francisco are, as well as the Chapel of Apparitions, heart of the shrine.
Munich, Germany Pub Crawl November 14 - 22, 2009
Our Munich Pub crawl was a blast! The capital of Bavaria didn't disappoint and the weather cooperated nicely. Low sixties and suny for most of the 8 days... who said global warming was a bad thing? The biggest impression the city made on me was how immaculately clean everything was and how friendly the German people were.
As a group we toured the city and saw all the major sights... Marienplatz, the Rathaus and Ratskeller, Hoffbrau Haus, Nymphenburg Castle and most of the old city. The following day we took a tour of the family owned Ayinger Brewery in the tiny village of Aying in the foothills of the Alps. We've been selling Ayinger Celebrator Doppelbock for almost 20 years now, so it was nice to meet those folks face to face.. and the tasting afterwards wasn't half bad either... ;-)
The rest of the week was free time to do whatever you liked... most visited mad King Ludvig,s castles in southern Bavaria... gorgeous. And most folks made the train ride for a day trip to Salzburg, Austria.. birthplace of Mozart. That left us all lots of time to wander the cobblestone alleys of Munich's old city, check out the outdoor markets, museums and, of course, all the wonderful beer houses! I was in heaven... I had an excellent Black Bock beer from Lowenbrau that I had never even heard of. Also plenty of Hoffbrau (only sold in liters), Spaten, Franziskaner, Paulaner, Aventinus, Augustiner, Lowenbrau to name a few.
